First real Patient DAY!!!!

Today was a lot of fun... I dont know why I was so nervous at first.  I had my sister-in-law come in and be my first patient.  She did so good, everything turned out great.  The x-rays came out great and then I was able to finish scaling one quad.  I'm glad a have such great family that can help me out.  I hope everyone had a great experience.  See ya all tomorrow only morning class Wahooo!!! :0)

End Of Patient day!

Today in clinic Hailey finished cleaning my teeth... They feel so clean.  She did such a great job and it didn't hurt at all.  I cant believe how far we have gotten and how much we have accomplished! Good job everyone!

Today was so relaxing in clinic.  I was the patient.  I felt bad for Hailey because I know how she felt being stressed and all, but she did great!  It was so relaxing I almost fell asleep.  I cant believe that in a week from today we will be seeing our first real patient! Well good luck studying for anatomy see ya all tomorrow!

Finished my First Patient!!!

WaHoo!!!! We finished our first patient today in clinic.  I scaled 2 quads, polished and varnished.  It was funny because now that i scale right handed I was having a hard time seeing and reaching the upper left quad so I decided that if I just scaled it left handed it would be way easier... and it was!  The instructor and everyone in the pod joked with me and told me I should just use some cheek retracters and scale both sides at the same time.  This would be sweet if it was possible and save the patient half the time.  HAHA.  It felt so good to finally put our skills to the test, and to feel a sense of accomplishment!  I am also excited that I get to lay back next week and be the patient.  I really enjoyed clinic this semester and I'm kind of sad that its almost coming to an end. 

Mock patient day!!!

I woke up this morning with the butterflies. I had a lot of emotions going through my body.  I was excited and nervous at the same time.  I wasn't sure I was ready for today.  I went in to clinic and I was happy to find out that I wasn't the only one with all these feelings.  I was ready as I ever was going to be, I got my patient back and started.  Everything went really well and I'm happy that I decided to be right handed.  It was a lot of fun and I had the best patient ever!!! For all of you that still have to be the operator... no worries it was a lot of fun!!! :0)

Pass off P.E.'s day...

Today was very chill in clinic, we spend the whole time passing off P.E.'s and practicing anything we wanted.  I was in my new pod today and it went really well.  I really like the girls in the new pod, but I  do miss my old pod.  Well I had what we call a AAhHA moment in clinic today.  Since I moved from a left handed unit to a right handed one I decided to try and scale right handed, which is scary for a left hand person, but I really enjoyed it and I think I will work hard at trying to be right handed.  I think it will be better off in the long run with jobs and everything.  

Sealants!!!!

Today in clinic we learned how to do sealants and we got to do some on each other for free! We also practiced polishing.  Today was a good day of clinic and lots of fun. 

Air powder polish, selective polish, and Fluoride Varnish application

Well today was a lot of fun... and messy!  It was the first time I've ever used the air powder polisher and watch out that stuff has a mind of its own.  I think I sprayed more water out of megan's mouth than in it.  Sorry meg. :)  We also polished and used varnish.  The varnish stuff is nasty feeling! It's still on my teeth, 4 hrs seems way to long to leave this stuff on, well I guess we have to experience it all before we do it on our pt's.  HaHa. Well see ya all tomorrow!

Treatment Planning

today in clinic was very chill and fun. We were able to practice anything we wanted on each other.  Also we passed off  P.E.'s and learned about treatment planning and how to enter them into the computer.  Well everyone have a great day and study hard for our test.

Practice,practice,practice!!

Today was another pt. practice day, and we also passed off some P.E.'s  I really like these practice days because I feel like I'm getting the flow of everything a little better.  hope we can continue doing this!  We talked a little bit about our OHI kits and I realized I should prob. get started on that.  It's crazy how the semester is almost over it feels like it went by so fast.  Well everyone have a good night studying for our exam in the morning.  See ya all tomorrow!

Patient practice day!

Today was really fun... we got to go from start to finish with a whole appointment.  We started out by reviewing the health history.  Then we did a extra and intra oral exam.  Then probed a quad and had the professor come check it off.  Then we did our OHI, used disclosing agent and educated our pt. on home care.  Then we practiced scaling. In the end we charted everything and cleaned up.  It was a great learning day and I was very happy we did this.  Thanks everyone for all the help today! Have a great night studying our skulls! Screening!

Today in clinic we talked about charting all the patients cavities, fillings, missing teeth, and a lot of other things.  My patients... was boring because she only had two fillings and some sealants.  Not much going on in her mouth!  HAHA Well I really like wed. clinic I feel like I learn a lot and the instructors have great advice! Brush, Brush, Brush, and Dont Forget to Floss!

Today in Clinic we were able to use disclosing agent and see where we didn't brush as good, then educate each other on brushing and flossing better.  We also were able to pass off P.E's and practice scaling.  I feel like everything is coming together so much better and it's a great feeling!  Everyone have a great day studying for radiology! Curet Scalers

Today in clinic we talked about Curets.  It was fun learning how to use them on the posterior teeth.  I thought it was harder then using sickle scalers on the ant teeth.  Also I'm happy I was able to pass of my identification of instruments P.E.  one more I've learned and been able to get out of the way! It's crazy how you can look at the P.E.'s at first and they look really scary and then you get the technique down and it's not that bad, well at least so far. Ant, Scalers

Well... Today was a lot of fun! I loved scaling Megan's lower ling... with that ling bar and all that was so much fun. Thanks meg for putting up with all of it.  Also great job on passing off your probing, you did great!  Well I cant believe we are this far along into the semester and we've learned so much! Great job everyone and have a great day today!!!!

Instruments...Instruments There are so many!

So today we talked about all the different instruments we will be using... I was really excited when we got to bag everything up for sterilization, it makes me think we are getting closer to being able to scale on each other.  I was also a little nervous because I got to pass of my probing and exploring.  I really thought it was fun when I did it though.  So if any of you are scared because of the whole 3min thing for probing... don't be its really not bad.  :0)  Well everyone have a good rest of the week, just think its almost Friday! 

Explorers!!!!

Today was fun learning how to use the explorers and working on each other.  I was also glad to be able to pass of my intra-oral exam.  I think the P.E.'s are just getting harder but I do like the challenge.  I'm a little nervous about passing off probing and explorers next week... I think I'm going to try to practice on my hubby a lot this weekend.  Haha  Well everyone good luck on Costley's test and I'll see ya tomorrow! 

Probing!!!

Today in Clinic we learned how to prob... I was a little scared at first, but it wasn't as bad a I thought, it was actually pretty fun.  I didn't really like being the pt. as much as extra oral but it wasn't that painful.  :)  After using the Loops I have to get me some of those, I love them!  Thanks ladies for letting us try them out.  Well I hope everyone has a great night and see ya all at convention, I'm excited to try on and hopefully buy my own loops!  SEE YA! :0)

Intra-Oral exam

Oh my... I thought that extra oral exam was a lot to remember.  that was easy compared to this.  There is so many land marks and things to remember.  I hope that I can remember this stuff in my little brain.  I feel like these PE's are just going to get harder.  I liked being the pt. of the extra-oral exam better. haha.  Well I hope I can study and remember intra-oral for pass of day! :0)

Cancer Screening...

Today in clinic was very relaxing... I loved being the pt. while my pretend Hygienist gave me a great head and neck massage. Thanks Megan! :0) Also I was glad to pass of HHX/HHX/RX and Vitals.  I hope everyone is having fun in clinic, I really enjoy it, and our PA's.  I got to get back to studying for Costley and our rad test.  See ya all tomorrow!  

Vitals

Today was pretty fun being able to listen and read each others vital signs.  I've never done this before today so it was a fun experience for me.  Also I was glad that we got to pass of chair/fulcrum P.E.'s I want to stay on top of the P.E.'s so when the really hard ones come we wont be to far behind.  I can't believe we have three tests this week good luck everyone!!!   

OH MY HEALTH HISTORY!!!

Well today during clinic was a little overwhelming... it's crazy how much info we have to chart down.  I know it's a good thing but man oh man it's so much.  I know once we get the hang of it, it wont be so bad.  I just hope all my patients that come in will be very very healthy and not on any meds. :)  The movie we watched, if saliva was red... that was sick, I bet ya if saliva really was red no one would work in the medical field.  haha Well I hope everyone does good on the rad. test and studies hard for class tomorrow.  See ya all then!

So today was a very exciting day! We got to take bwx and mount them in rad.  Also in clinic we were able to work with our instruments and mirror. I had a hard time with the clock posions with being left handed and all.  I feel pretty special I know.  It was a good day and also a long day.  I really love going to clinic though! Hey everyone, Clinic was fun today we finally got to work on each other, using the suction and air/water syringe.  We also set up and cleaned our op. I felt like today was really getting us ready to see a patient.  learning proper infection control is very important in our profession.  I'm excited for what is yet to come.  Hope everyone has a great day! Hey girls and boys.... We finished our second day of clinic and it was a long day but a lot of fun.  I really enjoyed rad and the blue boa... I need to bring that up with my dental office.  That suction is sweet!  I'm happy I passed my PE. I hope we all did.  I want you all to know I enjoy hygiene so far and meeting so many new friends!  See ya all tomorrow!  By the way I hope you all were able to print out that paper from me.  Thanks :)

Today was our first day of clinic,  it was so much fun!! I really enjoyed getting to know everyone and getting our units ready.  I can't believe this day is already here.  I've waited so long for this day to come.  I'm excited to get to know everyone and to be able to get through these next two years together.  We are going to do awesome, because we are here... We made it!  Congrats everyone! :0)
