1st mockboard over with!!

Today was a crazy day I wasn't nervous really until I woke up this morning and then it started getting to me.  I didn't sleep very great because I had a nightmare about clinic.  I had a dream that I forgot to pick my patient up for his appt. and then the bad part was I had to ultrasonic his toe nails not his teeth.  It was a NIGHTMARE!!! I hate feet.  It was really funny though when I woke up and thought about it.  I did have to pick my patient up because his car broke down.  My patient was so sweet he was willing to stay the whole day to be my patient and Hailey's.  That made for a long day.  When I got him back in the chair I was ready to give an IA injection and had him open really wide and..... I couldn't see his landmarks. :(  I didn't really know what to do or where I was aiming.  Good thing Dr. Naylor was there to help.  come to find out he never gets numb just my luck.  I was hoping I could just get right in there and clean his teeth and he wouldn't feel a thing.  Nope not the case.  He was really good though.  I let him bite on a bite block and every once in awhile I let him and I both rest and I rubbed his face to help is jaw.  His clac. was pretty fun to clean off it would just come off in chunks it was awesome!   But under the chunks were some pretty tough stuff.  I thought 2 hours would be plenty of time and that I would be able to polish.  Um... NO I was drying and exploring and drying and exploring and still found calc.It tolk me the whole 2 hours, poor guy.   Then I was marking recession and I was so mad because I new one tooth had a furcation and on that same tooth I thought I couldn't see any recession but then I douted myself because of the furcation so I put a 1 on recession and there was nothing!  I new I should have stuck with my gut and done what I would have done in a normal clinic day but I didn't and sure enough I missed it.   When my time was up I was glad to be done but nervous for what the instructors would find.  When the student examiner came back to tell me I had missed 6 spots I was so sad, I thought I had done better than that.  I got my air and explorer out and I could feel 2 of the spots and then I had professor Alaxander come over to help me feel and she couldn't feel what she had marked either so I ended up only missing 3 spots instead of 6.  :)  It was good I asked her to show me.  One area that I missed was the dang D of 18.  I hate that area and to make things worse his the D of that tooth was broken so it was really hard to feel.  It was a great experience and I got some great advice.  I was great to get it over with and to pass!  During the afternoon it was fun being the helper and I felt kinda bad having to tell the girls what areas I could feel they had missed, but I when I found out that the instructors say was what they went off of then I felt better.  It was a great experience being able to feel most of the same areas that the instructor felt.  The day was really long and I felt bad for my patient having to be there all day and also not getting numb, but he said he was fine.  I had a great day but I'm super happy it's over.  It pooped me out! I'm so excited we get tomorrow off because of the fall break, it is very much needed.  Well it's only 9 and I think I'm going to go to bed.  Good Night!!! :)  Hope everyone has a great break!   

Crazy Day!

Last night I recieved an e-mail saying my patient canceled and the name was wrong on the email so I thought it wasn't my patient.  I ended up e-mailing everyone and come to find out this morning it was my patient.  :(  I was stuck trying to find someone to come in.  My sweet hubby came in for me.  He saved my morning.  I thought everything went really good but it was funny because I passed off the blood glucose PE on him and he hates needles.. HAHA  he was brave though and did really good.  Then during the afternoon I finshed a class 2 patient and learned not to use my mini graceys in post. teeth because they dont fit all the way to the midline. Professor Alaxander taught me well  I'm so silly that I didn't think about that but now I know and missing those areas I wont do it again.  Also I saw a little boy and he was so cute and good for me.  I was able to take x-rays on him and he bit my finger pretty good. :( I enjoyed today but I'm happy it's over. 

MOCKBOARD PT. FOUND YES!!!!!

I was so worried last night at 7:00 my patient for this morning canceled on me I didn't know who to call and then my great hubby mentioned this guys in our ward.  He said he didn't work and that he hasn't been to a dentist in forever.  Sure enough he could come in, I was excited but I was really hoping he would be my mockboard pt.  I was taking his x-rays and I got so excited when that first x-ray poped up and I could see radiographic calc. everywhere.  YES!!!!! He was so nice he wanted to help me with my mockboards and he is also going to be Hailey's mockboard too.  It was a great morning.  I also had this sweet lady come in and I took a lot of x-rays on her so she can take them to her dds for work.  I hope I can clean her teeth sometime she was so sweet.  Then after only a small 20min lunch break I was back to work again.  I saw a class 5 and took x-rays on her and finished her and then I did a screening on another lady that hadn't been in since 2006.  I thought for sure she would be a mockboard for someone since I found mine, but no luck.... :( she was a class 2 but not tenatious calc.  bummer! Well I had a super crazy busy day and it was all worth it in the end because I found my MOCKBOARD!!!!! :) 

I wish I could find a mockboard patient :(

The morning started off great I was able to clean my grandmas teeth.  She wanted to come and see my school and how everything was done. She was only a class 5 but I was happy to see her.  She had a lot of crowns and it was a good experience for me to clean around them.  I was a little nervous but Perry told me not to be.  I was able to take 4bwx on her and finish her today.   She was funny because she kept asking if we were done yet.  Gotta love grandparents!!! I tired to give her a soft TB and she told me she didnt want it becuase she uses a med. one. She thinks the softer the less it gets off.  I had to try and tell her that is a lot of the cause of her recession and that she needed to switch to a soft one.  I hope she does, she left with the soft TB at least. 

My afternoon patient was an interesting one..... I was so excited because he was someones board patient in 2010 and hadn't had his teeth cleaned since.  He sat down and I took some bwx and the instructors told me he would be a great mockboard patient.  I was so excited until..........  I talked to him about being my patient for mockboards and he said he would love to except he might be going to prison for 15 years to life... WHAT??????? how crazy is that!  He told me his story and said if his is around in Oct. he would be my patient.  :( I swear I have bad luck.  well what do you do.... I tried to get as much as I could done on him.  I cleaned all the upper teeth because if he doesn't go to prison then I will use his lower teeth for mockboards.  He was super nice and I hope everything works out for him... I really need him as my patient.  So ya, that was how my day ended, I guess I neeed to start sched. some screenings so I can find that mockboard patient. 

Back to work in clinic

Today was the first day to see patients in clinic.  I was excited to see my class 5 patient this morning she is a sweet little lady.  I was able to finish her and also take a blood glucose test.   I missed two little spots on the straight L of #24,25.  Perry taught me what to do to get off that little spot and I learned so much today from him.  I also felt better in the afternoon when I saw my dad and nephew.  I was able to clean a 1B for the first time in 30min.  Perry challanged me a lot today and I was happy about it.  I also didn't miss any spots and that made me feel more confident in my hand instrumentation skills.  I was able to pass of my polishing PE and learn some helpful hints from Perry on how to hold the paste in my hand and I loved that.  I was able to place 4 sealants my nephew and he was such a good patient.  The day was a little crazy and I was a little scared for the first day back seeing 3 patients, but I knew I could do it and I did!  :)  It's all about being confident in ourselves and pushing ourselves to do more than we think we can do! 

I cant believe it's year 2 aleady!

Looking back I thought this day would never come.  I remember trying to get into the program and it only took freaking 3 years.  I thought I would never get in and my whole life was on hold for hygiene school.  Now look how time flies, We are all in our final year only 8 more months till graduation.  Oh I cant wait! :)  Today was our first day back to clinic and it was a fun, chill day.  Man I'm so happy first year is over.  I remember how crazy the first week was and I thought what am I thinking get me out of here.  Second year so far is so nice and chill.  I say that now but I'm totally freaked out for what is to come.... BOARDS!!!!! Scary, I cant think about it or say the word right now.  As for now I just need to get back in the grove of things and figure out how to clean someones mouth again. HAHA but seriously putting that instrument back into a patients mouth after 4 months is a little scary but I know it will all come back to me.  I hope everyone has a great day.  That is what is sad and that I miss about 1st year.... being able to spend everyday together with everyone.  I feel like now we only see everyone on Mondays and Fridays.  Well I better get back to reading my LA book which I'm a little clueless on what it is talking about.  :(  See ya all tomorrow! 

Best patient ever!

I saw my mom in clinic and it was so much fun!  I wish all patients are as good as a mom for a patient.  I was able to finish her in one appt. and we talked. :) It was a relaxing day and i did really good and didn't miss a lot of spots.  My goal for next year is to see a 1b and not miss any spots.  also I want to be faster in my scale times!

My lame husband

Today I was going to see my husband and clean his teeth and his retainer.  He got a call from work this morning and they needed him to come in early.  So.... No extra quads for me. :( dang him... who would have thought my own husband would do that to me. I guess he didn't have a choice though.  So I still brought his retainer and cleaned it.  I also was a patient for Laken so she was able to do some sealants on me so it worked out for everyone.  I also helped all the girls out by charting and cleaning.  It was a good day. I see my mom on wed. so I hope she will be here.  :)

Not such a great day...

I thought today would be an easy relaxing day because I just had to scale 3 quads of a class 2. and it was for extra quads.  well my patient was 45min late, pre-hypertensive and the sub calc was so hard to get off.  I thought I was doing good untill i missed 8 spots.  ahahhh... I also didnt think to use my graceys which i love. I was really tired and needed a lot of help from Costey today.  I just hope monday will  be better.  i guess i have to look at the bright side.... it was a good learning day!!

class 3

today was a really long day... i stayed for both clinics and saw my class 3 patient.  it was a great experience and fun to see that calc. fly off.  i made a goal to finish him in one day and i didi it! I also passed off my graceys PE, i love those instruments. I'm also finished with all my requirments.... YES!!! That was hard work and I've learned a lot.  well see ya all tomorrow have a good night!

Today was way to easy...

I finished one of my class v patients today and I had two hours to spare. I should have scheduled two patient. oh well though i was able to help others out and plan my month out.  i stayed busy.  I cant believe summer is almost here. :) Well im excited for wed. i see my first real class 2 and i think he needs numb yes!

clinic is great!!

Today was a great day, i saw a new patient class v, with a killer long hhx and i did blood glucose pe, 4 bwx, pano and finished her mouth. it was awesome. i woke up this morning and made it a goalto get her done because she lives kinda far and she is older.  i'm so happy it all worked out. now where are all the class 3 and 2 patients????

Today i finished my last 1b for requirments.... i'm still going to see my hubby though. Today went good i did intra oral camera and diagnodent pe's. i also finished my diet diary on my patient.  it was a good day, now i need to find some class2 and 3 patients.

class 2 please???

Today in clinic I thought I was going to see my first class 2 patient.  He was a class 2 last time he came in so I had high hopes.  I got my od check and he was only a hard class 1b or a class 5, bummer! I really needed a class 2 I looked at his xrays though and I knew he wasnt a class 2 he only had slight loss of lamina dura.  I wonder how he was a class 2 last time.  well I was able to pass off some pe's and scale two quads so it was a good day.  I was also able to use my ultrasonic for the first time since we learned.  My goal is going to be get better at using my ultrasonic, I like it but im a little nervous using it.

Goals!!!

I woke up this morning and made a goal to finish my 1B patient in one appt.  I took 4 bwx, passed off universal PE and finished my patient with no missed calc areas or anything.  I did it! Today was an amazing day.  I remember thinking there is no way I will ever finish a patient in one day. I feel really good about my progress and I'm excited to get better.  I see my first class 2 patient monday so I have to figure out what my goal will be.  Untill then it's my 5 year anniversary in about a half hour and we are going to bear lake for the weekend, so everyone have a great weekend and see ya all monday!

Today in clinic I saw my uncle, I was excited because I thought he could be my class 2 pt.  he hadnt been to a dentist in about 20 years and he doesnt floss. bummer he was only a 1b.  oh well though i took an fmx got an od for sealants, did sealants, and did my dietary analysis on him. it was a good day and i love our new pod instructor.

clinic was good today, i was able to finish my peer pale and with all the free time i had i passed off sealants, air powder polisher, and peer calc removal.  I was also excited because I recieved the TA posions that I applied for, head and neck anatomy and periodontology. It was a great day!

Today in clinic I saw two kids. It was a little crazy but I was able to finish them both.  I struggle when it comes to baby teeth and I thought my first kid had 8&9 when really they were his huge baby teeth. It was pretty funny.  I was really just glad to make it through the day because my patient I was going ro see today canciled on me this morning so I was freaking out trying to find someone.  It ended up still being a good day though.

Good Day!!!

Today at clinic I saw my peer pale.  It was awesome, she helped me and was such a great and easy patient.  I was able to get done od and 3 quads, first time ever! I thought today was a great day thanks to my peer pale!

Finished my dad today!

Today in clinic was a little nerve racking.... my instructor stood over me while I was scaling almost the whole time.  I really liked all her good advice but it also made me nervous.   I really enjoy clinic and I'm glad I was able to finish my dad today, I really didn't want him to have to come back a third time!  Well I hope everyone is studying hard for our tests this week..... Today was a good day in clinic... I was really nervous because I hadn't met my patient but from the time he sat in the chair everything went really well!  We did 4 bwx, OD, and scaled 2 quads.  He was such a great patient! I need more like him!  I hope everyone had a great day and experence with patients. See ya all tomorrow!

Clinic day

Today was a lot of fun in clinic... a lot better than monday.  I saw my sister-in-law for the second time and I was able to finish her, plus take a fmx.  It was awesome, and she was such a good patient.  I also was grateful for all the help from Professor Costley and from the CA's.  Thanks!!! 1st day back with a patient

I saw my dad today in clinic.  I took 4bwx, a pano and got done with everything but scaling... I was sad that I didn't get to scaling because I was ready to go on but I had to wait 45min for the OD check.  I understand that the instructors are really busy and I really do feel bad for them but I was frustrated too. Oh well though it was a learning day and I got the xrays done.  Have a good day everyone!

Back to Clinic

This is like home away from home.... I missed clinic I really enjoy it.  Today in clinic we learned more about of Graceys and also how to use the ultrasonic.  Man now I know why people use the ultrasonic all the time. It ROCKS!!! I also used my loupes for the first time and I love them.  I would hate to go back to not having them they are so nice.  Well I'm a little nervous getting back into the flow of everything and on top of class now having to get patients.  I hope everything will work out and it will be a great sem.  See ya all tomorrow!!
